What Is Business Consulting?

Trying to describe business consulting services is a bit like trying to describe an
elephant to a blind person. It covers a large area and feels very different depending
on where you start. This is not readily apparent and makes marketing very
challenging.

The first question we are always asked is:
What type of business consulting do you do?

With so many types of businesses encompassing a wide variety of markets,
products, services. The logical assumption is that different businesses have
different needs and there is some truth at its core. However there are fundamental
basics of business that apply regardless of the type of business. In a world of
specialists, we are generalists with a focus on the business' or agency's foundational
practices, the core structure and the basic business needs of the company. Often a
"specialist" will focus on the issue they have been hired to address and miss the
core issue that will, in the long run, limit the success of the company.

If a company's foundation and structure function well, the company can grow; if the
foundation is weak, success can kill a company as often as failure. Strangely
enough, success has been the end of many fine and innovative companies. They
were often founded on an idea but to busy to address the "business" foundation and
structure. They became successful and could not expand to meet the demand. They
could not make the business argument necessary to get additional funding and
eventually collapsed, unable to meet commitments, unable to meet resource
demands, unable to adjust because their business structure was weak.

Our approach is holistic. We review the entire company; its concepts, its
processes, its market, its products/services, its financial process and financial
needs, personnel and HR philosophy and most importantly its culture. We treat each
client as a unique entity, not assuming that it will be like other companies we have
worked with or case studies we have read, because each business is a unique entity
with a unique ways of doing its business. The similarities are important, but it is in
the differences that most change occurs. It is also true that different strategies are
needed at different stages of a business' growth. Each situation needs to be
reviewed individually against its current environment, what has worked before may
not be appropriate or effective now.

What kind of consulting do we do? The kind that makes our clients companies
stronger, more defined, competitive and profitable.
